Perfume Industry Lies: 4 Biggest Lies Told By Perfumeries

Perfume industry lies have been around for decades at this point, and the perfume industry is riddled with lies that have been hidden for quite a while now. While perfumes keep getting manufactured, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep track of what's real in a fragrance and what has been falsified. For this reason alone, our article aims to list down the most popular lies and also some that are lesser known so that you can know them beforehand.

1) Ingredients

Kicking things up, perhaps one of the biggest lies the industry has told is that there are natural perfumes and synthetic perfumes.

While there are fragrances made wholly out of Essential Oil, there is no substantial proof that they are better from other fragrance. All fragrances are made using Chemical Compounds (Aroma Chemicals) those compounds are extracted from natural elements.

The difference lies (no pun intended) in the quality of raw materials used, some manufacturer use cheap aroma chemicals to replicate specific scents while others use higher quality ingredients.

2) Gendered Perfumes

Moving on, let's just talk about gendered perfumes for a bit. What exactly defines a perfume? The base notes, the ingredients, or the fragrance families? This is exactly what defines perfume, but for some reason, the perfume industry lies, and how common they have become has forced something as simple as perfumes and fragrances to become gendered.

Perfumes went from being used by everyone who could get their hands on them to being unnecessarily gendered. As the years went by, perfumes specifically made for women or men started to be marketed and bought by people all around the world.

While musky and earthy scents and colognes became catered to men's lines of perfume and bought especially by them, floral and breezy scents that were lighter on the body and made people feel refreshed were marketed towards women and made even more expensive.

However, the reality remains the same: perfumes absolutely do not need to be gendered. They are all, in fact, unisex and can be worn by anyone.

3) Long-Lasting Perfumes

Personally, a big lie that the perfume industry has told me is that perfumes are bound to last all day long the higher the price is. Not only that but perfumes that are on the cheaper side have been known to last for barely a few minutes before they completely end up evaporating.

There is no general range for which there is a guarantee that a perfume will last all day long or for a few hours. It can depend on your ski, the weather, the fragrance families in the perfume. Hotter weather typically tends to make the perfume more volatile, and if it is mixed with sweat, then the good smell is automatically overpowered by the sweat

The winter season tends to be easier on perfumes and on the body, allowing them to last a lot longer than usual.

4) Environmentally Friendly Perfumes

Last but not least, another major claim that most companies will attempt to make is that their perfumes are ethically sourced, that their ingredients are natural, and that the product packaging is completely eco-friendly.

However, the amount of plastic wrapping on any one perfume bottle and the amount of cardboard used, let alone wasted, are insane. The only reason that most companies market themselves as "eco-friendly" is that they sell products.

Conclusion

While there are definitely companies that stand true to their word, it is important to understand that there is no one blanket that covers all perfumes and brands, choose what you love and most importantly understand that perfume is just an expression of your personality.
